What is a customer worth to you in a year?

A customer who costs more than their first order is only worth winning if enough of them come back, soon enough. Put in your margin and repeat rate, and see whether they do.

What one order leaves after product, packaging, shipping, gateway fees and returns, before ads. The Break-even ROAS calculator gives this as “Left to spend on ads, per order”.

Of the customers who first bought a year or more ago, the share who came back within 12 months. From your store’s customer report.

On average, after the first order. 1 if they come back once.

Optional. Use your real CAC — the Real CAC calculator works it out. Needed for payback.

Optional, on average. With it, the result says in which month a customer pays for themselves.

How it works

  1. 12-month value = contribution on the first order + contribution × the share who come back × the extra orders they place.
  2. LTV:CAC = that value ÷ what a customer costs to win.
  3. Payback: the first repeat order arrives in the month you give; any further ones are spread evenly to month 12. Payback is the month the running total passes CAC.
  4. Twelve months only. A value that counts years of orders not yet placed is a forecast.
